Somatic Support is a session of either NARM, Somatic Experiencing® or a combination of both. Sessions are both customized and collaborative based on your particular circumstances and what kind of change you want in your life.
You may wish to incorporate somatic touch for in-person appointments. If that’s the case, select Somatic Bodywork in the online scheduler. If you’d like more information before scheduling an appointment, Zoom consultations are available.
Salt City Somatics does not offer psychotherapy. Jenny Winkel is not a licensed mental health care professional.
NARM
The NeuroAffective Relational Model is a somatic approach to healing developmental trauma created by Dr. Larry Heller who also co-authored the accompanying book Healing Developmental Trauma. Developmental trauma is a term used to describe the effects of trauma on the critical stages of human development. By definition, it happens early in life and usually over long periods of time. The terms “attachment trauma” or “relational trauma” are often used interchangeably with “developmental trauma”.
Most people who have experienced NARM comment on how respectful the process is. It honors agency; is non-pathologizing; supports the mind-body connection in an organic, present-moment way; uses invitational language; is not interpretive; diffuses the power differential between client and practitioner and does not pursue goal or behavior-oriented outcomes.
NARM principles are used by licensed and non-licensed professionals in many sectors of the helping and healing arts. Some of these include somatic practitioners, spiritual directors and clergy, health care professionals, educators, addiction specialists and mental health counselors. Only NARM Level 1 is available in Utah.
Salt City Somatics offers somatic trauma healing through methods that are not psychotherapy. Jenny Winkel is not a licensed mental health care professional.
